Toshiba is ready to make memory of new type
Toshiba Corporation plans to accelerate development and start of mass production of memory of new type
Toshiba flash-drive microcircuits.
It is informed that efforts of Toshiba will be aimed at creation of flash-modules NAND of 3D architecture. Issue of prototypes of 128 or 256 Gb is planned for 2013, and engineer samples of such devices are supposed to appear in 2014.
Mass production is planned for 2015: the Corporation will start to deliver microcircuits of 512 Mb. In future it is planned to issue chips of 1 Tb and more. Moreover near 201 Toshiba will present samples of resistive random-access memory (ReRAM) of 3D-structure. ReRAM (or RRAM) memory combines advantages of DRAM and NAND flash-drive. ReRAM microcircuits are quite as quick as DRAM but still energy independent. In comparison with NAND the memory of new type consumes less energy and has more cycles of rerecord. And also Toshiba develops magneto-resistive random-access memory (MRAM), made in accordance with technology of switch with spin transfer спина (Spin-Transfer Torque, STT). Such method would solve the problems which “classic” MRAM technology would meet when increasing density of memory elements and recording current. MRAM will be used as cache for solid state disk.
Sone develops new tablet PC
According to information of “aware web-sources” on the New Year eve Sony will present a new tablet PC

Now Sony has Tablet P and Tablet S built on the basis of Tegra chip of the second generation. Tablet P is in fold-out body, each half of which has screen of 5.5 inches in diagonal (resolution – 1024x800 pixels).
Tablet S has 9.4-inch touch-screen of 1280x800 resolution. Operation system – Android. New tablet is most likely to have screen of 9-10 inches diagonal.
Earlier it was informed that the “heart” of the gadget is Tegra 3 processor which includes four basic cores of 1.4 GHz, additional low-voltage core and graphic controller GeForce. Observers suppose that Sony could issue several table PCs of different configurations with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Windows RT (version of Windows 8 for devices of ARM architecture). This year it is supposed the tablets sales could make 107.4 mln units.
According to the estimates of IDC, in 2013 deliveries will reach 142.8 mln units, and in 2016 – will exceed 220 mln.
New scanner can take fingerprints stealthily from more than 5 meters
Printing that has been used since long ago for personality identification was quite a complex procedure of ink and paper. In time and as technologies were developing the procedure was simplified, there were digital fingerprints scanners taking prints from a finger put on the scanner. Now it is even simpler due to the scanners that can do it remotely and, that is more important – stealthily for a man. One of such scanners developed recently, can do it from the distance of 5-6 meters.
The focus of AIRprint scanner developed by IDair company is the cameras working in unusual manner. In other words the device doesn’t have super camera of gigapixel resolution accepting very detailed photos of a man’s fingers. The scanner is equipped with two ordinary cameras of 1.3 magepixel resolution and an original flash producing impulses of polarized light. Optical system of one camera is made to perceive the light of horizontal polarization and of the second – of vertical. As ribs and caves of fingertips reflect light of different polarization with different intensity, then the pictures received by two cameras differ from each other somehow. Using this difference of pictures special algorithm can quickly match detailed picture of the fingerprint. AIRprint camera does it quickly – in one ninth of a second it can receive prints of five fingers and precise fingerprints will be ready in one second after the pictures are made.
It’s natural that such system has broad sphere of usage in the areas where personality identification is needed. For example you could pay in supermarket without credit card with such a system. You just have to wave your hand, then the system will recognize your fingerprints and charge the amount from your account.
But the most intricate option presented by the systems like AIRprint is the option to identify people from distance not attraction their attention at all. May just now someone has taken your fingerprints and put them in his database. But don’t worry a lot about this. Technologies like AIRprint could be get round very simply – you just have to put on gloves or put your hands in pockets.
Yandex – new slogan
When the bill about so called “black lists” of web-pages and web-sites was discussed in the Duma, the largest Russian search service corrected the slogan of its logo placed on the main page.
Instead of the standard combination of Yandex and phrase “everything could be found” at the main page of the search service, on June 11 the users see the name and the word “everything” is crossed out with red lines in the next phrase.
When the logo is clicked there appears an explanation addressed to the users. The text is the following: “For the civil society the necessity of fight with child pornography, illegal content in general and support of such constitutional principles as freedom of speech and access to information is obvious ”
The State Duma is discussing bill № 89417-6 “About amendments of Federal law “About protection of children from information hurting their health and development” and separate legal acts of the Russian Federation concerning the issue of limited access to illegal information in Internet”. Moreover this bill supposes to make amendments in the law “About information, IT and information protection”. They will concern very important issues and affect the interests of many parties: citizens, state and Internet industry.
Eye computer controlling system
British researchers created a hardware and software suite allowing to communicate with a computer by eyes only.
GT3D system locating user’s pupils allows to move the cursor on the screen, flip through web-pages and even type text.
To press a key you have to cock the eye: specialists explain that refused to use blinks as it is a natural process so false reactions can happen. Moderate price is one of the most important advantages of the development. GT3D consists of two quick video cameras (each for near 30 USD) and a rim for 5 USD on which these cameras are fastened.
Data can be transferred onto the computer by Wi-Fi or USB. Special software is processing information into control commands.
The demonstration showed how to play Pong game with GT3D (see video). Theoretically if using more precise calibration it is possible to teach the system to assess the distance to the object which a user looks at. It will allow to use the complex to control a wheelchair by glance for example.
Vladimir Putin, President of the RF, told that till the end of July the Russian Government shall bring in a bill about education when all constructive offers should be taken into consideration.

During the stage of document adaption and discussing in the Parliament he issued a direction “to take into consideration all constructive offers of pedagogical and students organizations and parents”.
Grigory Balykhin, member of committee of State Duma for Education, earlier told that the bill is supposed to be in the Duma in July. This information was also confirmed by Natalia Tretyak, Deputy Minister of Education and Science. Bill “About education in the Russian Federation” prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science will replace two basic laws – “About education” and “About higher and post graduate professional education” adopted in 1992 and 1996 correspondingly.
Norms for all levels of education including preschool, professional – elementary, secondary and higher, and additional, will be prescribed in the bill.

Twitter is against censure following Wikipedia
Users launched hashtags #ruwikiblackout and bill № 89417-6 in top Russian segment of social network Twitter. They express disagreements with bill of creation of the united register of prohibited websites. Earlier Russian Wikipedia called a strike because of this bill. Internet users explain that they consider bill 89417-6 “Making amendments for federal law “For protection of children from information hurting to their health and development” and separate legal acts of the RF” discussed in the State Duma to be an attempt to induct censure in Internet. According to Interfax Twitter users expressed their solidarity with virtual protest action started by Russian Wikipedia.
Russian Wikipedia interrupted its work for 24 hours in protest against the bill discussed in the State Duma as it could be used for creation of “great Russian firewall” preventing from access to exact websites of the content being non grata from the point of view of the authorities.
Legal amendments can become the basis for a list of prohibited websites and IP-addresses with further filtering.
Message on the main page of the project declares: “Today on July 10 Duma is discussing amendments to the law about information which can cause creation of non-judicial censure of the whole Russian Internet. Moreover it can cause closure of access to Russian Wikipedia”. Wikipedia society protests against censure dangerous for free knowledge open for the whole mankind.
Lobbyists supporting these amendments declare that they are aimed only against the content like child pornography.
Wikipedia announced: “Russian practice of application of legislation considers the worst future when access to Wikipedia will be closed all over the country”.
Altay State University: reading hall is opened
Digital reading hall with remote access to resources of
Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library was opened in Altay State University. Information infrastructure of the hall was projected and realized by Scientific and Technical Center Galex on the basis of equipment of Cisco company – world leader in the sphere of net technologies.
To provide the work of digital reading hall the specialists of Galex put wire and wireless computer network, congress system and video conference system. Moreover general building works were also executed: heating, electrical and lighting systems were replaced, ventilation was built.
Spread net infrastructure of the library includes high duty local and wireless net allowing the visitors to connect personal devices. The solution realized on the base of Cisco Catalyst communicators and Cisco Aironet wireless access points are very easy in use and break rarely, they provide high security level when users connect to the University local net, resources of the Presidential library or internet.
New hall allows students and professors to participate in video conferences, broadcast thesis defenses in internet and organize video bridges due to the installed system of video conference based on Cisco Telepresence C20 equipment. Except for provision of HD resolution Cisco has vast functions, easy launch, management and exploitation.
Moreover Galex invented decisions for further development of the library which will allow to create full text digital library fund, to provide access to it through information portal and to realize an option to replicate university editions.
The project was brought to life within very short terms: all works in accordance with international standards and high requirements set by the Presidential library for organization of rooms and users’ services were executed less than in two months.
Diplomas with chips
Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation creates system of electronic marks for diplomas of universities, schools and college graduates. According to a source of Ministry of Industry and Sales speaking with “Izvestia” next year it is planned to issue the first 3 mln diplomas with chips.
As it was told Scientific and Research Institute JSC "Mikron" will be an executor of the project.
Andrey Golushko, Commercial Director of Mikron explained that the system will be based on the technology of radio frequency marks (RFID).
Electronic marks of diplomas allow to struggle against falsifications, document authenticity will be guaranteed/
Such marks will be read with electronic reader.
Cash acceptor of an ATM is an example of such “validator” – radio frequency reader.
It determines nominal value and authenticity of banknote with a system of detectors comparing its characteristics with samples stored in its memory. NFC (Near Field Communication), wireless high frequency connection of small radius is a one more variant for reading data of chipped diplomas.
It allows to interchange data between devices if the distance between them does not exceed 8-10 cm.
Credit cards equipped with such system don’t need to be put into payment terminal, it is enough to put them near special pot on it. Alexander Adamsky, supervisor of Institute of Development and Eductaion “Eureka” tells that the matter isn’t only to check authenticity. Chip with information allows to collect portfolio with a student’s achievements. It could replace stack of papers.
Unifies State Exam Certificate and student’s data will be “rolled into one”. Anatoly Alexandrov, Rector of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, told that diplomas are sold near in every subway and it is a real problem. If modern technique allows to create a more protected diploma – it is right to do so. Another problem is that there are too many universities which should not be even called so, the diplomas are printed “in the kitchen” there. If modern technique allows to exclude such situation – it is also right to do so.
Nikolay Kudriavtsev, Rector of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, tells that gunpowder shall always be dry. New technologies shall be used. There are databases which can trace if a man did really pass exams. But I think that additional “watermark” is always useful. RFID technologies penetrates into our lives actively. The first intellectual shop without cashiers will be launched in Moscow in summer of 2013. Each product will be marked with radio frequency chips.
New technology will allow to trace rests in the shop and in the warehouse. A buyer could pay for the products without taking them out from his basket.
